Abstract by Oscar Howe, Signed (“War Dancer”)

Abstract by Native American Artist Oscar Howe, Signed. Wyld Gallery calls it “War Dancer.” 18″ W x 17″ H. Frame color is a cross between bronze and gold.

Oscar Howe (1915 – 1983) was born on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Although his formal art education was from the Santa Fe Indian School, he abandoned the Santa Fe style in favor of a more abstract style. He famously challenged the limited definition of Native art in a letter to the Philbrook Ark Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is credited with opening museums to a greater range of expressions by Native artists.
